Coming up with an adequate title for this book was an interesting process. Most people who know my Scientology story are aware of how traumatic much of my experience was. But those who truly know me, know I have a kind heart and that harping on “all the bad” is not my style. So, the framing of my story will not surprise them.
If we are to be honest with ourselves, life is a mix. It’s full of the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. Those who make it in this world and ultimately lead a happy life are those who learn from the full pallet of their experiences.
It goes without saying that I would not have stuck with Scientology for 37 years if I had not felt I was benefitting. I dare say that others who spent years involved in it all too likely feel the same. But that’s their story to tell, if they wish. This one is mine.
While I didn’t keep a diary, I have a pretty darn good recall of my past. I will do my best to share what I observed and/or experienced as honestly as possible. If I am not clear on the facts, I will say so.
All in all, my purpose in composing this book is not to shine the light on Scientology in a good or bad way. It is intended to impart a much broader view, a world view of how flawed leadership can have disastrous consequences.
My hope is that those reading what I have to share will give more thought to how they hold themselves in this world and the impact that small acts have in the present and will have in the centuries to come.
I have also made a point of including a very comprehensive appendix with resources for you to dive deeper into this subject matter as you see fit.

“Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment and merging of races, and we are still far from this blissful realization, because few indeed, will admit the reality that “God made man in His image” in which case all earth men are alike. There is in fact but one race, of many colors. Christ is but one person, yet he is of all people, so why do some people think themselves better than some other people?” ~ Nikola Tesla

Having spent 2 years compiling my story and finally publishing it on Oct 6, 2017, I can honestly say that it was by far the most therapeutic experience I have ever had. I had countless “aha” moments every step of the way and publishing took it up several notches.
Even if you have no interest in publishing, for whatever reason, maintaining your privacy being the usual, you have the option of writing under a pen name or even changing the names of the characters and the places and labelling it “Fiction”.
But no matter how you go about this, it’s a pretty sure bet that you will feel better.
Another side benefit that I experienced is that telling my story got others I know to open up about theirs. I found it absolutely amazing how much trauma people I personally know have gone through in their lives yet each and everyone of them managed to rise above it and are enjoying life in their later years.
The thing we all seemed to have in common was our willingness to get it off our chest and share it with someone, whether a best friend, a therapist or in a book.
So, no matter how embarrassed or ashamed you may feel about your past, let it go, compile your story. Once you’ve done so you can decide what you want to do with it.
Happy compiling!
