Quote Regarding “Peace” by Nikola Tesla

“Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment and merging of races, and we are still far from this blissful realization, because few indeed, will admit the reality that “God made man in His image” in which case all earth men are alike. There is in fact but one race, of many colors. Christ is but one person, yet he is of all people, so why do some people think themselves better than some other people?” ~ Nikola Tesla

The Therapeutic Value of Composing One’s Memoirs

23 Monday May 2022

Having spent 2 years compiling my story and finally publishing it on Oct 6, 2017, I can honestly say that it was by far the most therapeutic experience I have ever had.  I had countless “aha” moments every step of the way and publishing took it up several notches.

Even if you have no interest in publishing, for whatever reason, maintaining your privacy being the usual, you have the option of writing under a pen name or even changing the names of the characters and the places and labelling it “Fiction”.

But no matter how you go about this, it’s a pretty sure bet that you will feel better.

Another side benefit that I experienced is that telling my story got others I know to open up about theirs. I found it absolutely amazing how much trauma people I personally know have gone through in their lives yet each and everyone of them managed to rise above it and are enjoying life in their later years.

The thing we all seemed to have in common was our willingness to get it off our chest and share it with someone, whether a best friend, a therapist or in a book.

So, no matter how embarrassed or ashamed you may feel about your past, let it go, compile your story.  Once you’ve done so you can decide what you want to do with it.

Happy compiling!_20140711_231124

All I Really Need To Know

I Learned In Kindergarten

Poem by Robert Fulghum

(Note: I was struggling to compose an article and lost that battle. So I decided to share this poem instead as it has been an inspiration to me and may become one for you as well!)

“Most of what I really need
To know about how to live
And what to do and how to be
I learned in kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top
Of the graduate school mountain,
But there in the sandpile at Sunday school.

These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don’t hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life –
Learn some and think some
And draw and paint and sing and dance
And play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world,
Watch out for traffic,
Hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.”

A Great Read for a Great Life

the 4 agreements

I was first introduced to this book 8 years ago by very dear friends of mine to help me recover from a very traumatic time in my life.

Since then I have made a point of sharing this with countless friends, associates and acquaintances, to help them to not merely having a good life, but a great one.

From my position as a Mediator, I highly recommend this book as a key part of the process in resolving disputes. It is so powerful, it can make Mediation sessions unnecessary!

The following are excerpts…

“The First Agreement – Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using words to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth, of what is good, and what you want. Choose your words carefully in what you say to others, as well as what you say internally to yourself.

…

The Second Agreement – Don’t Take Anything Personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering and worrying. You can simply say, “next”.

…

The Third Agreement – Don’t Make Assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. You have to learn to ask for what you want with conviction and confidence. Others cannot read your mind. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

…

The Fourth Agreement – Always Do Your Best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. It will be different from day to day. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

…

“As you build the habit of the four new agreements, your best will become better than it used to be.”

Best, Kay Rowe
